It's no new news that Colorado has had massive devistation to it's Rocky Mountain forests due to the pine bark beetle prevalence, but now we're seeing more and more trees in California's forests turning brown.
A visit to Diablo Mountain will quickly show a display of thousands of dead trees, which means increased fire danger, especially in light of the drought. However, the numbers might be a little more shocking than you may have realized. According to the CAL Fire News Release, over 29 million trees have been lost. This not only poses a fire threat to private and public properties, it indicates California must prepare and extend its awareness to those who appreciate and utilize the CA forests. Although pine bark beetle may not be as common to dead and fallen trees in urban areas around the San Francisco Bay Area, the effects will ultimately affect residents sooner than we may have expected.
